VLA New Project Launched

An interview named The Human Side of Decision Making launched in 2026!

The brand-new project “The Human Side of Decision Making” from VLA is coming! This is an interview project originated by Celine Liu —— the current chair of the VLA Youth Committee, she will lead us to focus on real choices and thoughts at important moments in life.

At different stages of life, we all face important decisions—about school, careers, relationships, and direction. We often hope to make a “perfect, 100-point decision,” but in reality, most decisions are more like 99 points. They are not perfect, but they are real, meaningful, and often become the starting point of growth and change. Yesterday, we used AI to complete the Chinese promotional video for this project. You are very welcome to watch it and leave your thoughts and suggestions on YouTube.

A video generated by AI and aimed to introduce this project.

Through interviews with people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences, this project records how they made important decisions in their lives. What doubts and struggles did they face? What different opinions did they hear? And how did they finally make their choice? We hope these real stories can show the complexity and logic behind decision-making, instead of trying to find a so-called “success formula.”

In November 2025, we completed our first interview through an online meeting. Our first guest was Aiden Guo, a former key animator for One Piece, who is now a teacher in Suzhou University. About ten years ago, he gave up his psychology major at the University of Toronto. After many changes, he eventually graduated from Sheridan College’s animation program. During the interview, he shared how he discovered his passion for drawing, tested his abilities through real-world practice, and finally got to the place he wants. Although being a key animator is a very demanding job—sometimes one second of animation takes dozens of hours of work—he truly enjoys it and has no regrets.

Through this interview, we saw the power of passion, hope, and belief. We also saw both sides of decision-making, which often come with laughter and tears at the same time. This is exactly why we started this interview project: the experiences of those who came before us are valuable lessons for our growth.

The interview video with Aiden is posted here. You are welcome to watch it:

Preview of the Next Interview:

Our next guest is Ms. Sun, born in 1996. After finishing her undergraduate studies in China, she chose to study abroad, look for jobs overseas, and decide where to live. Today, she lives in a city more than 10,000 kilometers away from her parents. Over the past few years, she must have faced many important decisions in her life. As teenagers who came to another country with our parents, being a minor is only a stage. In the future, we will also face similar choices about school, work, and life. This time, let’s listen to her story.

“The Human Side of Decision Making” is not about giving answers, but about listening and understanding. We believe every choice is worth telling, and every experience can inspire and support young people who are thinking about their future.

At the same time, the interview process itself is a big challenge for us. It is our way of connecting with the real world. As teenagers, we are still learning how to organize interviews, film and edit videos, and publish content. We are not very skilled yet—but we are trying our best to communicate with the world :)

We hope more people will be willing to pick up the microphone and share their life decisions with us. We already have experience with online interviews, and our offline interviews mainly take place in the Greater Toronto Area.
